In politics and Sociology, Divide and Rule also known as Divide and Conquer is a combination of Political, military and economic strategy of gaining and maintaining power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into chunks that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy. The concept refers to a strategy that breaks up existing power structures and prevents smaller power groups from linking up.
In specific case, divide and rule is the system that the Ethiopian rulers have used to successfully colonize, harass, and abuse the Oromo people for long and still holding on the way. Today also TPLF / The Tigrian peoples Liberation Front/ keeping to use the technique to harass the Oromo people and other peoples of Ethiopia .
We can see some of the elements involved in the Divide and rule the Oromo People that helps us to understand how deep and organized the TPLF regime to rule over the resources and everything that belongs to the Oromo people and People of Ethiopia completely.
Elements of Divide and Rule the Oromo people by TPLF and its alliances can be explained as follows
1. Creating or encouraging divisions among the Oromo people based on their geographical locations (Bale, Wolega, Arsi, Borena, Wollo, Showa, Hararge, Jimma etc) religions (Christians, Muslims, Waaqeffannaa, etc) and even based on their Socio economic activities. This was one of the biggest problems that shared and wasted the resource of the Oromo people's in their fight for freedom in the last two decades against TPLF regime. Currently also we can see what TPLF is doing against our Muslim brothers and sisters in their question for freedom of religion is one good example of the techniques used by TPLF to divide peoples based on their religion and to take more time on power to harass the Oromo people and Other Ethiopian peoples in slavery .
2. Aiding and promoting those who are willing to cooperate with TPLF. There is a big and wide promotion policy of OPDO, the so called Oromo peoples Democratic Organizations in Ethiopian media since its origin from the core of EPRDF to have indirect control over the Oromo people. OPDO have got all the necessary coverage of media to be introduced to the oromo people and other people in the Ethiopian empire as an organization that represent the Oromo people in the federal system. But in reality OPDO has got nothing to do with the right and freedom of the oromo people so far.
3. Fostering distrust and enmity between the Oromo people and others. The TPLF regime has initiated conflict between different nations, nationalities, and people at different times and places, since it came to power, causing destruction of thousands of lives and millions of dollars worth properties. Accordingly it has managed to instigate conflict in the district of Riimaa Dhaadessaa between the Oromo people in Ajje sub-zone of Arsi zone and the Sidama people in Hawasa sub-zone of Sidama zone. Loss of lives and property has been reported due to this conflict initiated by the agents of TPLF on both sides. There for one way to fight for freedom is that to be able to get a solution for local and border conflicts between peoples by peaceful discussions with out the involvement of the TPLF agents from both parts when the problem is happened.
4. Encouraging meaningless expenditures of time, energy, and manpower of the Oromo people to reduce the capability for political and military spending. Even though there has been so many resistances from the Oromo people against TPLF since its control over in the last 21 years, there has been unsuccessful because of the divisions and waste of too much energy, time and man power. This shows it is the time to come together and evaluate the wise use of our energy, time and manpower to dismantle the TPLF regime from our original home land.
5. Creating indirect opposition in the force that is fighting for the true democracy and freedom of the oromo people. This can be amplified through considering what is has been going inside The Oromo Libration Front / OLF /. The enemy has worked underground directly or indirectly to weaken OLF. This evil work resulted in the upcoming of a minority group against the fight for freedom of the Oromo people.
6. Dramatization of events that shock the innocent Oromo people and Other people as these horrible events are conducted through OLF. The TPLF controlled Ethiopian Television / ETV/ has showed so many documentary films that are shocking to see and claimed OLF and other struggle groups are behind this horrible actions in the drama from ETV. Of course now we are in a stage everybody is understanding the lies behind the Video camera of Ethiopian television.
We can say more but let this is enough for today but as a point of conclusion it is easy to see that, the TPLF power to oppress the Oromo people and other people depends on the inability of oppressed peoples to muster a unified resistance, and the most successful divide and ruler in Ethiopia, TPLF, is skilled at exploiting the differences among the people under oppression. There for it is a right but late time now to sit down and discuss, agree, plan and act in unity for the Oromo people to claim the freedom we deserve.
