To: Dr. Fikire Tolossa/Tolassa; Myths/Wishes cannot be True History and hence Stop Distorting History!

July 26, 2013

After I read an article entitled “A BRIEF NOTE ON THE ORIGIN OF THE AMARA AND OROMO”  by Dr. Fikire Tolossa/Tolassa, I am interested to give my comment on the article. This, because the article appears to be very different from what is widely known among our people-Oromo. Hence, I prepared this comment based on belief that the wrong and distorted information should be considered and corrected before they spoil the public. I provided my comments in two main parts. In the first part, the general weakness observed in the article is briefly described. In the second part, the information presented in the article is commented and criticized by selecting phases from the article as evidence and illustration for argument.

Part I : GENERAL COMMENTS
In your article “A BRIEF NOTE ON THE ORIGIN OF THE AMARA AND OROMO” you are mainly concerned with dealing with the origin of Amara and you seldom refer to indicate about Oromo and Afan Oromo. You tried to indicate what is the name Amaha refers to and  how the Amara Language come to existent and where it come from(Refer to the last four  paragraphs in your article). On the other hand, you have said nothing regarding Afan Oromo. You plan was to show the same origins of Oromo and Amhara?  It seems that that your discussion is not balanced. It may also shows your biasness.  On the other hand, giving such great attention for one of the two seems that you have “adequate” information about one of them. However, your discussion appears to indicate that you have no/limited data about origin of Oromo and Afan Oromo. If you don’t have data, why you write about Oromo? Please know about Oromo before you write such distorted history.

Your discussion is mixed and lost focus. Through you intended and claim to describe about the origin of the two group of people, around the end of discussion you describe the origin of a language which has nothing to do with the topic at hand. In middle of your writing, you raise issue unrelated to the point. You failed to get focused on the issue selected for discussion. It is better to clearly know what to write before we write.  Get focus.

Your article also does not like formal way of writing history. You did not indicate source of your argument inside and at the end of the article. Hence, it seems that you are writing your own opinion or wishes you want to see or hear in the future. For example, you said “I think this word alone suffices to prove that Amaregna and the Amara had existed in Ethiopia more than 3000 years ago”. How you write history by saying ”I think”? What You think may not be true and real. Personal perception cannot be History. Your arguments are not supported by relevant sources. As academician, just know how to write paper or ask for help. Writing for seek of writing is useless, as the article you wrote.
Part II: SPECIFIC COMMENTS
It is confusing how the Amaha and Oromo are from the same origin or family.  It is widely accepted that Amahas are Semitic in their origin and Oromos are Cushitic people. Different historical books also showed that the clan called Habashat migrated from South Arabia and settled in the present northern Ethiopia. Currently these clan are named as Habashas (refer to Amhara and Tigire). That is why, all  other ethnic groups except the stated ones refused to be referred as Habasaha.  So how they can be the same or brothers? This should be new version of History. It is your night mare and evils plan.

The bible also clearly indicated the difference in the origin of the people. In— it is stated that---

Mostly you indicated stories, which are related to God and St. Mary. For example, you said:

  1. ---both the Amara and the Oromo are the descendants of one man or father- Melchizedek, King of Salem the highest priest of God on Earth, founder of Jerusalem
  2. God ordered Melchizedek to send his son Ethel who was named as Ethiop later on by God, to go and settle in Ethiopia at the islands of Lake Tana
  3. God sent Ethel to Ethiopia, so that when God (Jesus Christ) is born as a human being 2000 years later, the descendants of Ethel would bring him to Bethlehem Ethiopian gifts. From religious perspectives is it true that God need gifts from human beings?
  4. God changed his name from Ethel to “Ethiop” meaning “the gift of yellow gold to God”.  Why God changed the name? How you come to know?
  5. They headed for Bethlehem with gifts led by the star which God had said would lead them.
  6. Belam (a prophet in the Sinai who prophesied the Birth of Jesus as a Star?

If  these are  true, why single statement is not referred to in the Bible?  The points you have raised in the discussion and selected above for attention and illustration are not stated in the Bible or they are contradictory to the what is written in the Bible (See the selected phase # 6). That is why your writing tends to be fiction. You had better write fiction that may not require source.

Dr. I don’t think myths can not be true story. However, you took myth as a reality or approved fact and write history. It is shame up on you. Rather you try to cheat your readers saying “This information is based on my reading of Ethiopian history and Metsehafe Djan Shewa,—“ Which book you have read on Ethiopian History regarding the issue you are claming to support? How many books are they? Who wrote them? When? Can books written by the ill-informed and devilish priests be a source for arguments? For example, most Oromos never accept books or chronicles written by Priest. How you use such books to convince the two group? Source evaluation is a major concern to write history. Your writing lacks this major component.

You seem to reduced the History and origin of Ethiopia to the History of Christianity or Christians? What about the other people and religion? It seems that your writing perfectly describes the History of Habasha People. Your hidden plan also seems so, though you claimed that” to  show that the origin Amara and Oromo –“

The greatest and very big problem in the writing of  DR. Fikire is what he claimed about the original source of Oromo. He said ”Out of Medebay descended the Oromo.” This is what the Oromos said “Soba Adii” meaning white lie. It seems you are intended to strongly distort the History of Oromo People.  The Oromo claim that they descended from their fathers who got two sons Boorana and Baarentuma.  This may be new for you! Since you don’t know the Oromo. What you clam and what the Oromo themselves believe is very different. You seem act like the past Governments ” I know for you”  However, what is revealed here is that you don’t know about your self and for yourselves let alone knowing for others.  It is also interesting that no one will be distorted by your wrong and confused information. The Oromo know clearly where they come from and who they are. Stop Such non-sense wrong writings on Oromo People.

The other greatest mistake is regarding the original source of the two people. You noted” Both the Oromo and Amara originated in Gojjam” How it comes? What you doing our ‘intellectual Doctor’? You seem confused or getting crazy. Please visit clinic as soon as possible. What are your evidences to say so? The Amhara may be originated there. However, the Oromo never and ever think so. The original home land of Oromo people is in between Bale-Borana Border. There are various evidence to argue so. You can read books if you need to know this. It seems you are not interested to know. Rather it seems that you blindly write things and intended to confuse people and distort reality.

It is tragic and unfortunate that to hear what you said ”–the Oromo and Amara share the same father and grand father.”  Nothing is wrong if they area descended from the same origin. However, both Oromo and Amara peoples do not accept what you are claiming. If you ask, they will tell you opposite information. History is not an experiment that you do in laboratory. You prepare new version of people’s history and tell this is your history that they never heard before. History cannot be fabricated. Stop history fabrication!!

Inconsistency in spelling: You use Medebai/ Medebay interchangeably like your fathers’name Tolossa/ Tolassa.

Some where you said ”According to this ancient manuscript, both the Amara and the Oromo are the descendants of one man or father- Melchizedek”  If this is so, why the issue remain hidden from the general public for such long time? What is the need of raising the issue at this particular time? That is why it is said what you are writing is your daydream than the reality at hand. It appears that you have certain hidden political sentiment than describing the historical origin of the two people.

The Oromos do not have the Genealogy you are taking. You finally described your self as “I am Fikre Tolossa, descendant of Melchitsedek, King of Salem, of Ethiop and Deshet, the prophet.” It is good that you finally exposed your self as you are not an Oromo. The Name of you father “Tolossa” you write down in the article is not also from Afan Oromo. Rather from Amhara Language. Hence, stop writing about Oromo as you are not Oromo and you don’t know Oromo people, their language, culture, history, genealogy etc.  You are simply like Aleka Taye and Kesi Bahire. You want to distort the history and language of Oromo People. The Only difference is that you title is Dr. and you committed the same mistake that the priest did after 500 years or so. It seems that you have shortage of readings or you purposefully need to distort it.  You need to  think before you write.

To Sum up: You said in the second page ” It is tragic and unfortunate that the Oromo and the Amara have been misled to fight each other in the past and in our time”. Taking your phrase, it can be concluded, “It is tragic and unfortunate that the Oromo and the Amara have been misled in the past and in the present time by the so called intellectuals like Dr. Fikire and others.

I AM ABDII SABAA, a song of Oromo.

Yaa’a Baloo, Oromiyaa!!

OROMIYAA FIRST!!!
