Modest Suggestions towards a way out of the Crisis... for the Brutal regime in Ethiopia

December 14, 2015 | From the Facebook of Tsegaye Ararssa

What is preventing the officials to scrap the master plan? Call an emergency Caffee meeting, repeal the urban development proclamation (which creates conditions of possibility for expropriatory master plans including the AA Master Plan), make a resolution on the the latter, set up an independent commission of inquiry towards bringing perpetrators to justice, restoring the victims, creating positive peace through political acts of apology, accountability, and reconciliation.

The federal government officials (especially its ministers like Abaye Tsehaye who declared war on Oromo people repeatedly), the regiments of the federal army, the federal police, the Oromia police that ignited confrontations with the people, local opdo officials who butchered the people must be held accountable politically, legally, and in all other appropriate ways.
Federal officials need to be removed from office and stand trial. If not, they will be tried in the appropriate international venues for war crime, genocide, and crimes against humanity. ( NB. The federal army, the special force, the federal police have been conducting war on Oromia without any legal ground or the appropriate procedure for federal presence in the states in accordance with the rules of intervention order).
The OPDO should dismiss its Caffee, bring its officials to justice , especially those who were heavily involved, and organize a state and local election in 3 months. The protest is a vote of no confidence for each member. They have no authority to govern. They never had it anyway but whatever semblance of authority they had is now comprehensively and definitively rejected.
Most immediately, they should release all the people they have arrested in this saga of imposing the master plan. They should vacate the suffocated political space with a view to creating an open free conducive political ecology in which to make snap election.
These are some of the key steps towards (slow but necessary) stability. Otherwise, the suffering of the people continues. And they will keep being haunted by their worst night mares.
So, responsible leadership now requires more than organizing panicky press conferences every other day; it requires taking concrete action. It is easier. The solutions are simpler than they think:

  1. SCRAP THE MASTER PLAN AND ITS ACCOMPANIMENTS SUCH AS THE CAFFEE OROMIA LABSI (i.e. the urban development proclamation).
  2. STOP KILLING PEACEFUL PROTESTORS.
  3. REMOVE ALL FEDERAL MILITARY AND SECURITY PRESENCE FROM THE STATE
  4. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR POLITICAL MISTAKES AND VIOLENT MILITARY CRIMES
  5. Dismiss the Caffee, organize the election, reconstitute the government, build peace, rebuild the state out of the ruins the TPLF/EPRDF created.
These are some modest suggestions. The alternative is your total demise in spite of your many press conferences.
