Every society has its unique central organizing and ruling ideology and theoretical models in a given historical epoch that it uses as its lenses to look at and interpret the world and to survive freely and advance its civilization or ways of life without disruption from within and without. Ideology plays many roles in a society, and its essential function is to define and promote the political, material and cultural interests of a group, a nation, a social class, a state or other entities. Before the Oromo were colonized, they had also their central organizing and ruling ideology and theoretical models that were embedded in the gadaa civilization that organized and guided them as a society socially, culturally, religiously, politically, militarily, and economically. I advance the idea that without retrieving and developing the best elements of this civilization, the Oromo cannot fully develop Oromummaa (national culture, identity, and ideology) as their organizing and central ideology and their theoretical models of liberation to empower themselves as a nation in the twenty first century by recognizing and overcoming the devastating ideologies, behaviors, and theoretical models of their oppressors that have confused and disempowered them.
Kenya: GSU Sent to Keep the Peace On Kenya, Ethiopia Border

The government has deployed more than 150 GSU personnel to help quell tensions along the Kenya-Ethiopia border following the killing of four Kenya Police Reservists.
The four were abducted on Lake Turkana and shot dead by raiders from Ethiopia. Turkana North DC Erick Wanyonyi said marine police are using boats to patrol Lake Turkana where tension is still high following the killings three days ago.

The Ethiopian government must end its use of repressive tactics against demonstrators, following initial reports of widespread arrests of Muslim protestors during this morning’s Eid al-Fitr celebrations, said Amnesty International today.
“We are extremely concerned at reports coming out of Ethiopia this morning of further widespread arrests of Muslim protesters. The Ethiopian government’s ongoing repressive crackdown on freedom of speech and the right to peacefully protest has to end now,” said Claire Beston, Amnesty International’s Ethiopia researcher.

On July 29, 2013 an article entitled “History 101: Fiction and Facts on Oromos in Ethiopia (a guide for foreign journalists on Oromos and Ethiopian history)” was written by ‘Prof. Fekadu Lamessa’ (http://www.salem-news.com/articles/july282013/oromo-truths-fl.php). The writer claims that the aim of his article is to offer “some corrections” to “inaccuracies or biased information” al Jazeera has published about Oromo nation and struggle recently. In this regard, he outlined four core points he considered as “inaccurate” about Oromo history that al Jazeera has extensively reported, and instead offered us what he thinks are ‘facts’. For him, i) Between late 1870s and 1900, half of all Oromos (around 5 million) were not killed because in the late 1880s even the total population of the Empire/Ethiopia were less than 5 million, and thus Menelik did not commit genocide against Oromos; ii) “Oromo people have never been a predominantly Muslim people”; iii) Arabs and Somalis were the one who labeled Oromos the derogatory word ‘Galla’, not Abyssinians, and iv) Oromos were never colonized by Abyssinians (Amhara). In this article, based on available historical evidences a critically evaluation of each of the four assertions Fekadu outlines is offered.

The Ethiopian state TV aired a special congregational Muslim ritual held on the 27th of the Holy Month of Ramadan. This abrupt shift in the regime’s apparent behavior may surprise some, amuse others, but surely shock many.

Only Liberalisation Can Redeem Ethiopian Telecom

There seems to be no service that Ethiopians of all colours complain about more than telecommunications. A sector destined to live under the reign of the restructured ethio telecom monopoly, telecommunications remains the hotspot for the disappointments of the ever-growing population of the nation.
At the heart of the complaint matrix rests the quality of the services provided by the monopoly. All of the services that the corporation provides, ranging from landline telephones to broadband internet, witness the same magnitude of grumbles from consumers. The cyclic quality issue facing the services is unable to find any viable solution, even after a series of quick fixes tested by the ruling elite.
