We, members of the Oromo Democratic Front, wish our Muslim brothers and sisters in Ethiopia and throughout the world a very happy Eid al-Fitr. We congratulate each and every one of them for successfully completing a month-long period of fasting, religious devotion and fellowship.
During the month of Ramadan, Muslims dedicate themselves to deep religious reflection, fasting and prayer in order to enhance the fellowship of family and community members. Such an exercise is best performed under conditions of peace and harmony, conditions that have been non-existent for Ethiopian Muslims now for almost two years. Hence, Muslims are celebrating this year’s Eid al-Fitr once again under a very challenging atmosphere.

In their bitter and long experience under Abyssinian colonization, the Oromo’s and the Southern peoples of the Ethiopian empire have gone through a lot. The marginalization, exploitation and abuse under successive Abyssinian regimes targeted not only on their identity and culture, but also dispossessing of their resources by evicting them from their ancestral lands, and also levying hefty taxation to the central government to keep them impoverished so that they can be restricted and pre-occupied with worrying about where their next daily bread comes from and have no capacity to demand their economic, political rights they deserve according to their size and resources.

Somali gov't to probe deadly Ethiopian plane crash at Mogadishu airport

MOGADISHU, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Somali government on Friday appointed a high level committee to investigate a deadly crash of an Ethiopian Air Force plane at the Mogadishu airport.
Four crew members died and two others were injured after the plane crash-landed at the international airport in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
"The Somali government has appointed a high level committee to investigate the cause and the damage of the accident and produce a full report," Somali government spokesman Ridwan haji Abdiwali said in a statement.

Married to growth, development has been (largely) reduced to economic advancement – meaning maximizing Gross National Product (GNP) figures month on month, year on year, and turning over glowing returns to the insatiable global monetary bodies – The World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) and – profit to private investors.

MOGADISHU, Somalia, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Four crew members of an Ethiopian air force plane died Friday when the aircraft crashed at the international airport in the capital of Somalia, officials said.
The African Union Mission to Somalia said the plane "burst into flames immediately on crashing," CNN reported.

Ethiopia: widespread arrests reported after Eid protests

Police began rounding up peaceful protesters returning home near the Ministry of Justice in Addis Ababa shortly after the Eid prayers concluded at the national stadium, according to eyewitness reports on Twitter. Those detained were ordered to sit on the ground inside the Ministry's compound, the reports said.
Hundreds arrested, beaten, and tear gassed Thursday morning following nationwide Eid day protests, Muslim rights activists said.

One is more likely to ask who Makkoo Bilii is. Presumably, many citizens of Oromia know very well about the Ethiopian colonial rulers like Tewodros/Kassa or Minilik, as opposed to knowing who Makkoo Bilii really was for reasons beyond the scope of this short paper. According to one of the celebrated Oromo Nation’s historians, Nagaasoo Gidaadaa, PhD, Makkoo Bilii was one of the glorious Oromo leaders from Maccaa. Many people say lots of things about him. Some refer to him as the expert of the Gadaa law; some say that he was a Prophet, yet others refer to Makkoo Bilii as Abbaa Bokkuu (the President), or Abbaa Duula (a leader of the War).
