Ethiopia has a long history of brutality and human rights violations
against civilian populations. Among those persecuted are ethnic Oromo,
Sidama, Ogaden, Anuak and Afar.
Oromo constitute 50% of the population, and thus become a major target of Ethiopian military and security. As it stands today, there are more than 20,000 Oromo political prisoners in Ethiopian prisons and torture cells.
