#‎RememberOromoProtests‬

April 25, 2015 | From Gizachew E Soboksa
Dear All,
Always remember this day. One year ago on this day, the most horrific news hit our facebook news feed. It reads that Ethiopian federal government police forces were busy firing live ammunition at the peaceful and defenseless Oromo protesters in Ambo town located in Oromia region of Ethiopia.

The news is immediately followed by countless graphic videos and photos on scene; we are all panicked. The live ammunition from Federal police claimed the lives of 70+ brave Oromo souls who were protesting against illegal eviction of Oromo farmers neighboring the capital of Ethiopia, Finfinne/Addis Ababa. The perpetuators were not brought to justice and the cause for which our martyr’s sacrificed is yet to be realized.

Sadly, the plan to evict Oromo farmers with insignificant ‘’compensation’’ of < 8000$/ha and selling their land for > 9,000,000$/ha (9M$/ha) is not reversed yet. Instead, Ethiopian government higher officials went too far insulting our martyr’s as ‘’ የማንም ጎሮምሳ ‘’ meaning ‘’ordinary gangs’’ and insulting the whole Oromo nation as narrow minded people for resisting exploitation of their resource through this entirely rent seeking system that TPLF (Tigrean People Liberation Front) built over the last two decades.

This is not an Oromo issue as many people narrate, it is actually severe human right violation that concerns every human being. Condemning this cruel acts and advocating for human right violations to end shouldn’t be seen as something partisian to the Oromos; It is yours’ too.

Dear Oromo people and friends of Oromo people, the injustices and insults inflicted up on Oromo people is insult to your intelligence, insult to my intelligence and insult to humanity as a whole. As stated in Martin Luther King, Jr open letter from Birmingham Jail written on April 16, 1963, Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere“. Therefore, I urge all of you to remember our fallen heroes and heroines on this day. While doing so, please don’t forget to call the families of these maryr’s and help them with all that you can.
