Jawarawi Harakat or an Intentional Criminalization of the Oromo Nationalist?

July 05, 2013 | By Fayyis Oromia*

On February 5, 2013, Ethiopia’s only and publicly-funded television station, ETV, aired a controversial documentary during primetime in violation of an outstanding court injunction. Oddly subtitled “Boko Haram in Ethiopia,” Jihadawi Harakat (i.e. Arabic for “Jihadi movement”) – denounces leaders of Ethiopia’s yearlong protest movement for alleged links to foreign terrorists. That criminalization of the Ethiopian Muslims’ legitimate question of the right in exercising their religion without any interference from the government was not surprisingly the first fictitious “documentary film” produced by the regime to criminalize civic or political movements in the Ethiopian empire. Similar criminalization of the Oromo national liberation movement (the OLF) was undertaken some years ago.

Saudi Arabia scraps plan to deport 40,000 Ethiopians

July 04, 2013 | Sudan Tribune

Authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have cancelled a plan to expel thousands of undocumented Ethiopian immigrants, after the Horn of Africa nation intervened diplomatically.

Under a newly introduced labour law, Saudi Arabia in April gave undocumented foreign workers a three-month period to legalise their status in the gulf state or face deportation.

Virtue of Secularism for Oromiyaa

Oromo are one nation. They had democratic past from time immemorial. Historically, Oromiyaa had one religion. That religion did not interfere in the affairs of state. In the same manner the state did not interfere in exclusively religious matters. That did not mean that there was no support for each other. Both political (Luba) and religious (Qaalluu) institutions had areas of cooperation in cultural and ritual matters. But secularism had given the nation an overall guidance in times of peace and war. True Oromo did not only respect religion but was also known for its tolerance of difference in thoughts.

Identity debt crisis, the case of Abe Tokichaw

July 01, 2013 | Ayyaantuu.com

The dubious Oromo descent is being obsessed with claiming himself #Oromo these days amidst AJstream’s coverage of the most pressing issue in the contemporary Ethiopia. It doesn’t matter whatever he claims himself to be, but his recent satirical writings are contradictory, provocative and the dialects are in short of the true nature of any logical argumentation.

To Abe Tokichaw, Don’t Be a Poster Child of the Ethnocidal Policy of #Ethiopia against the #Oromo

June 30, 2013 | Gadaa.com
On Abe Tokichaw’s ‘Meglecha’ (N.B. Abe Tokichaw is a satirist on the Neftegna TV station, ESAT – and has recently been airing his opinions about the #Oromo struggle and #Ethiopia in the form of a ‘Meglecha’ – Read it Here
Abe Tokichaw,

The important thing is you have realized that knowing only a phrase/word of Afan Oromo (which you called Oromigna) is/was part of the oppression. I do not know any Amhara in Ethiopia who knows ONLY a phrase/word of Amharic. Thus, from this, it is clear that, while your Amhara friend is all equipped with his own national language, you, his Oromo friend, are only learning your friend’s national language, but not your own national language, which is Afan Oromo (Oromigna).
